Today Josh and I few into sunny San Diego and grabbed a ride with our local host Girlscout. Girlscout is neither a girl, nor a scout. I will get into the topic of trail names at another time; until then, just go with it. Girlscout took us to his blue bungalo on a hillside in San Diego. We met Moo, his guinea pig, a cheerful looking puff of white fur. Josh and I relaxed outside, went through our packs, and laughed at the fact that it was pouring rain in Portland at that very moment. Girlscout informed us that dinner would be at Scout and Frodo's (again, just go with it). S & F live in a large house with a sprawling, open kitchen, big enough to feed 30 hikers every night. This night, it was a "small crowd" of only 17. Josh and I met hikers from France, London, Norway, and Germany. We ate dinner with a group of friends who met working as backpacking guides in Guatemala. One girl had just bought her tent, and was laughing as she set it up for the first time in the backyard. The family dog got into another girl's food, chewing through a ziplock bag to get to some tasty jerky. I ate way too much amazing chocolate fondue. Tomorrow morning we head out towards the trailhead, about an hour east of San Diego, to finally begin the hike. With no job, no condo, and hardly any real world responsibilities, we are both feeling pretty dang good right now. Time to do some walking.

Damn- I meant to get some Doves mailed to you before you took off. Have a wonderful and safe trip. We so admire your joint sense of adventure and ability to get things done. Mgt Ann
ReplyDeleteWe (Dennis and I) just talked about the two of you on Sunday and how it was "Day One." Looking forward to reading as you post about the trail. Kind of wishing we were in your shoes; kind of glad I have cows and chickens keeping me home. Enjoy your travels.
