Two weeks!

Here we go: Two weeks until Josh I head down to the southern terminus of the Pacific Crest Trail to start a five-month hike. Right now, it doesn’t seem quite real that we are actually, truly, seriously going through with this plan. But the condo is getting emptier by the day as stuff is moved to storage, Josh has already quit his job, and I have six shifts left at work. I think it’s safe to say this trip is going to happen.

I’m not really sure how often I will be able to get online while we are hiking, or what content this blog will have. I’m hoping to post pictures and some stories as I am able to. A lot of hikers do blogs, and I want to make sure ours doesn’t turn into a self-congratulatory showcase for how awesome we are. Because we aren’t. I’m not curing cancer by going on this hike. I just hope our parents, along with maybe another person or two (the likely extent of our readership), will enjoy following the trip along with us.

In case you are wondering what, exactly, the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is, just know this: The PCT is 2,650 miles of badass mountains, rivers, forests, volcanoes, deserts, and lakes that stretch the entire length of California, Oregon, and Washington. It passes through nine different mountain ranges, including the Sierra-Nevadas in California and the Cascades in Oregon and Washington. It confines itself mostly to designated wilderness areas and National Forests. I’ve been on parts of this trail, but there is so much more out there I can’t wait to discover. The idea of calling the PCT home for five months is blowing my mind.

Enough about the trail. First, we have to get there. We are flying to San Diego on April 19th. Once there, a guy we met on the internet will pick us up at the airport, let us stay the night at his house, and drive us to the trailhead an hour away in the morning. Seems totally legit.

While we are gone, you can email me forever at carlaa49@gmail.com, or post comments on the blog. I’ll do my best to keep up with the outside world, but at the same time, I don’t want to be Internet obsessed while I’m out there in the woods. Let’s just say any responses will probably be delayed.

Finally, we will be homeless and jobless when we finish the trip in September or October. Hopefully someone will have some awesome job connections for me around that time! Hint, hint.

Everything we will be taking on the trip!
